The State of Hunger in Cameroon

Cameroon continues to face significant violence stemming from conflict. Large numbers of refugees who have fled Central Africa Republic are also arriving in desperate need of humanitarian assistance.

The lingering socio-economic impact of COVID-19 and climate shocks, including drought and flooding, have further exacerbated hunger in the country. In 2022, food insecurity was expected to increase by 70% compared to 2021, leaving millions more people in need of support.

How We're Helping in Cameroon

Action Against Hunger provides integrated nutrition, health, and mental health support in Cameroon. Our teams are helping to improve livelihoods, prevent hunger, and build resilience through farmer field schools, village savings and loan associations, and more.

At our Farmer Field Schools, agriculture experts teach farmers climate-smart growing techniques, introduce nutritious, resilient crops, and provide small plots for people to test what they’ve learned before they put them in practice at home.

We respond to immediate crises by providing emergency aid and, at the same time, we partner with communities to build long-term resilience to help them prevent hunger and cope with future shocks.

To better predict and respond to food crises, our teams are developing an early warning system for acute hunger emergencies.
