Cast & Crew from Award-Winning Movie Meatballs Reunite for Charity

Press Release

Toronto (May 5, 2014) – Today, humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger Canada announced it will host The Meatballs 35th Anniversary Reunion, an event celebrating the iconic Canadian film which was released the same year Action Against Hunger was founded. The event will take place in Toronto on June 4, 2014.

“Action Against Hunger is thrilled to host this event, which will raise much-needed funds for our programs while celebrating an unforgettable Canadian film,” said Susanne Courtney, Executive Director of Action Against Hunger. “Action Against Hunger is excited to bring a hearty dose of nostalgia to fans, and we’re grateful to the fantastic former cast and crew who’ve agreed to participate.”

The event includes an exclusive private screening, followed by a rare panel discussion with leading cast and crew. The panel will include actors Harvey Atkin and Chris Makepeace. Joining them will be Daniel Goldberg and Don Carmody, producer of over 100 feature films.  The panel will be facilitated by SCTV and Saturday Night Live alumnus Robin Duke. Also in attendance supporting the event will be Shannon Tweed who was in Meatballs 3.

When released in 1979, Meatballs quickly became a hit sensation across North America.  Set at a summer camp in Ontario, it centred on hilarious mischief between counsellors and campers.  Directed by Ivan Reitman, the movie was produced by Goldberg who co-wrote it with the late Harold Ramis.

“This is sure to be a lot of fun and I know Harold Ramis would have enjoyed it.  I’m delighted to join together with other cast and crew to help Action Against Hunger provide relief from hunger and its root causes,” Goldberg added.

Action Against Hunger’s 5,000 field staff work in over 45 countries to carry out innovative, lifesaving programmes in nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, and emergency response. Its programmes reach more than 7 million people a year, restoring dignity, self-sufficiency, and independence to vulnerable populations around the world.

The Meatballs 35th Anniversary Reunion will take place in Toronto at the TIFF Bell Lightbox – home of the Toronto International Film Festival.  Tickets for this unique special event are $35.  A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $150.
